Stefan Marcinowski was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1953. From 1971 to 1976, he studied chemistry at the Universities of Stuttgart and Freiburg. He obtained his doctorate under Professor Grisebach in 1978 and stayed as an assistant at the Biochemical Institute in Freiburg until 1979.
