Securing the health of mothers and children |
01/06 |

Improving maternal health and reducing child mortality rates are two of the focal points of BASF’s activities in São Bernardo do Campo. Since 2002, BASF has been subsidizing a municipal health care program that aims to promote medical checkups for mothers and children: the so-called Mother and Child Passport project.
In the year the program was launched, some 12,000 passports were distributed to pregnant women from low-income backgrounds. Mothers and pregnant women presenting this document are entitled to medical support at 30 municipal health care institutions. The Mother and Child Passport is also used to keep an accurate record of infants’ development from gestation to their second year of life, which facilitates earlier detection and treatment of medically relevant changes and diseases.
