BASF receives Sustainability Award in France |
06/06 |

On Thursday, June 29, François Loos, French Minister for Industry, and Yves Chauvin, Nobel Prize laureate for chemistry, presented BASF with one of the 4 trophies rewarding the winners of the "Pierre Potier Prize for Innovation in Chemistry in the name of Sustainable Development" for its Generation E building concept.
"Their example illustrates the role played by the chemical industry in facing up to major environmental challenges, such as saving energy and preparing for the post-oil era," declared Mr. Loos.
Developed by BASF and rolled out at Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val-de-Marne) in partnership with Logirep, the client, and the CSTB (the French Scientific and Technical Centre for the Building Industry), along with industrialists from the building industry, the Generation E Building (with "E" as in Environment, Economy, Energy and Equilibrium) addresses building renovation with the aim of making a building efficient in terms of energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions. For the primary energy (heating and ventilation), consumption will be less than the equivalent of 50 kWh per m2 of living area per year (as opposed to 400 kWh prior to renovation!). The operation will be completed by the end of 2006.
