BASF extends position as supplier to Turkish automotive industry


Münster, Germany – July 3, 2008 – BASF has signed an agreement with Turkish company Yasar to acquire Yasar’s shares in the 50-50 joint venture Yasar BASF Automotive Coatings Ltds., which markets automotive OEM and refinish coatings in Turkey. The move is part of BASF plans to strengthen its position among international automotive manufacturers and suppliers in the Turkish market. Both companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction. In 2007, the joint venture posted sales of approximately €45 million and had 130 employees.

BASF to raise capacity for dimethylaminopropylamine


BASF will gradually add 10,000 metric tons to its global annual production capacity for dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA) by the end of 2008. The company makes DMAPA at its sites in Ludwigshafen (Germany) and Geismar (USA). Dr. Beate Ehle, President of BASF’s Intermediates division, said: “As one of the world’s major DMAPA suppliers we will, as always, keep pace with our customers’ profitable growth in the future.”

BASF plasticizer Hexamoll® DINCH comes out ahead in eco-efficiency analysis


The BASF product Hexamoll® DINCH has the highest eco-efficiency in a comparison of the top five non-phthalate plasticizers on the market today. So say the results of a BASF eco-efficiency analysis, verified by the impartial German organization TÜV Rheinland. Plasticizers are added to PVC (polyvinylchloride) to make this naturally hard, brittle material soft and elastic. BASF analyzed the eco-efficiency of non-phthalate plasticizers for three everyday product groups: children's balls, tubes for medical devices, and garden hoses.

BASF and Evonik co-develop advanced CMP slurries


Evonik Industries AG and BASF have agreed to collaborate on the development of ceria-based slurries for fabricating computer chips. The agreement will leverage BASF’s chemical expertise, global marketing and distribution capabilities with Evonik´s leading position in nanomaterials. The resulting slurries are expected to be commercialized in 2009.

Dr. Bernd Burkhart appointed head of BASF’s Aroma Chemicals business

Ludwigshafen, Germany – July 2, 2008 – Effective as from June 1, 2008, Dr. Bernd Burkhart is the new head of BASF Aroma Chemicals business. He succeeds Dr. Ulrich Schaefer-Luederssen, who died unexpectedly in April earlier this year.

BASF at ITMA Asia + CITME 2008


BASF will be participating at the ITMA Asia + CITME 2008 exhibition in Shanghai from July 27 - 31 (Hall E3, Stand C19). Visitors will be able to see and discuss about the wide range of ecological solutions for the textile industry under the three key aspects of ecology that are consumer safety, resource saving and climate protection.

BASF increases prices for acetylene-based specialty intermediates and carbonates


With immediate effect or as contracts allow, BASF is increasing the sales prices globally for acetylene-based specialty intermediates by 10%. Rising costs make these price adjustments necessary.

BASF to raise prices for Terluran Commodities, Styrolux and Polystyrene in Europe


Ludwigshafen, Germany – June 25, 2008 – As of July 1st, 2008, BASF will be raising its prices in Europe for Terluran® (ABS) Commodities and Styrolux® (SBC polymer) by 100 Euro per metric ton. At the same time the GMP (gross market price) for Polystyrene will be increased by 50 Euro per metric ton.

BASF to increase prices for polymer dispersions and powders


Ludwigshafen, Germany – June 24, 2008 – Effective July 1st, 2008, or as contracts allow, BASF will increase prices in Europe, Africa and Western Asia for polymer dispersions and additives by €80-100 per metric ton and for polymer powders by €160 per metric ton.

BASF increases prices for polyetheramines


Effective immediately, or as existing contracts permit, BASF will increase prices for polyetheramines in Asia, Europe and South America by 5-10% depending on the type of product. BASF had previously increased the prices for polyetheramines in the NAFTA region effective May 1st at the same rate.
