Trostberg Competence Center for Construction Chemicals

At the beginning of 2007, the Trostberg Competence Center for Construction Chemicals was extended to become the worldwide research platform “Polymers for Inorganics.” Here, more than 100 experts develop new technologies in the fields of dispersions, polymer systems and polymer physics. About 100 new developments per year strengthen the product portfolio of BASF’s Construction Chemicals division, for instance. The building is enclosed in a glass skin measuring about 3,200 square meters.

The thermal insulation systems HECK® and SENERGY®...

The thermal insulation systems HECK® and SENERGY® help to warm and cool buildings with low energy input. The products – multilayered panels – are easy to use and available in many colours. A good example is "Ginger and Fred," the "dancing house" in Prague. Products from BASF’s Construction Chemicals division cover the entire renovation process from the drying-out of the walls through restoration of ornaments to clay plastering.

Tatara bridge

Admixtures from BASF’s Construction Chemicals division make steel-reinforced concrete durable and thus a suitable material for architectural masterpieces. The cable-stayed Tatara bridge in Japan has a span width of 890 meters. Its 220-meter-high pylons are made of steel-reinforced concrete. When concrete is made, the proportions of water and cement determine both its consistency and final strength. Plasticizers from BASF, such as GLENIUM® SKY, liquefy the compound while enabling a smaller amount of water to be added – this increases the final strength of the concrete.

Storebælt-Bridge

Concrete with admixtures from BASF’s Construction Chemicals division remains unshaken, even by rain, wind and tides. The 6.8 km-long Storebælt-Bridge spans the Great Belt between the Danish islands Seeland and Fyn. Its 281-meter-high pylons are made of steel-reinforced concrete. When concrete is made, the proportions of water and cement determine both its consistency and final strength. Plasticizers from BASF, such as GLENIUM® SKY, liquefy the compound while enabling a smaller amount of water to be added – this increases the final strength of the concrete.

BASF offers products such as GLENIUM® ACE...

BASF offers products such as GLENIUM® ACE that increase the early strength of concrete in the manufacture of precast concrete elements. As a result, the elements can be removed sooner from the formwork. The concrete compacts automatically and does not need to be shaken in order to deair. Since complex machines are unnecessary, customers save money and energy. At the same time, occupational diseases caused by noise and vibration can be prevented.
